    Shana Birly is an MSc student at Harvard Medical School. She is currently a Research Fellow at HMS exploring the Bioethics of portable Neuroimaging research in diverse populations. Additionally, her research also focuses on the comparative effectiveness of first line treatment in Bipolar Disorders. Shana obtained her BSc at San Jose State University. Prior to HMS, Shana was a Scientist in Clinical Development at Genentech, a San Francisco based Biotech. She also worked as a research associate for UCSF and UC Davis prior to transitioning to industry. Shana hopes to continue her research in a PhD program where she can apply her experience working with diverse populations in underserved communities. Shana is originally from California and enjoys hiking and playing with her dogs, Scooter and Mr.Darcy.Shana Birly is an MSc student at Harvard Medical School.     Amal Cheema is passionate about global health, policy, and bioethics; she is committed to helping individuals and communities achieve their highest attainable health. Working towards a career embodying her passions, she is pursuing an MPH in Quantitative Methods at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health. She is also concurrently pursuing an MD at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, class of 2024. Majoring in biochemistry and political science, she received her BA from Wellesley College, where she was also an Albright Fellow and intern for Clinton Health Access Initiative. Prior to medical school, she pursued a Thomas J Watson Fellowship, studying religious and cultural beliefs around organ donation in SE Asia and Europe, and then worked in empirical biomedical ethics research at Mayo Clinic. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, and is close to her three sisters, one of whom is her twin. Her favorite pastimes include reading, writing prose and poetry, baking, traveling, pursuing outdoor recreation, and creating art.

    Qassi Gaba is a first-year Master of Biomedical Informatics student at the Harvard Medical School. Qassi is originally from Los Angeles, but has primarily lived in the UK and New Zealand. Qassi aims to bridge healthcare, data science, and organizational strategy to advance equitable and effective healthcare delivery within local communities. Before enrolling at Harvard, Qassi received a BA from the University of Oxford, specializing in Cell and Systems Biology. During his undergraduate studies, he also explored growth equity investing in digital health startups, strategy consulting focusing on biotechnology, and impact entrepreneurship during the COVID-19 pandemic whilst studying abroad in New Zealand. In his spare time, Qassi enjoys playing sports, such as golf, soccer, and squash, and is a keen supporter of the All Blacks.

    Rebecca Hurwitz is a graduate student in the Biostatistics Department at Harvard University. Originally from San Francisco, California, she obtained her bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley in Integrative Biology: Human Biology and Health Sciences with specializations in Global Public Health and Entrepreneurship & Technology. Her research interests lie in utilizing statistics and data science to address pressing problems, specifically aiming to alleviate health disparities with a focus on under-resourced communities. Before coming to Harvard, Rebecca worked to hone her analytic skills as a healthcare consultant at Cloudmed, a research data analyst at UC San Francisco, and a data analyst intern Marin County Health and Human Services. At Harvard, she hopes to further explore how purpose-driven leadership can catalyze developments in statistical theory, originate data-driven decisions, and establish equitable solutions to our world’s greatest challenges. In her free time, Rebecca is enjoying exploring Cambridge, experiencing “seasons” for the first time, and checking out all that New England has to offer.

    A native of Harare, Zimbabwe, Tatenda Mujeni is a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) student at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Tatenda has worked as the Senior Technical Advisor for Malaria and Health Systems Strengthening programs for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), where she has overseen the organization’s malaria programing in up to 14 field offices in 11 countries in Africa. Her role has included malaria supply chain management, ensuring timely delivery and ongoing provision of malaria medications and supplies in a network of 190 faith-based health facilities located in some of the most remote areas of Africa. Tatenda is passionate about strengthening primary health care systems--especially in limited resource settings--and she has been instrumental in the health facility revitalization programme at UMCOR that has led to the revitalization of 55 health facilities throughout Africa. She has also supported health system strengthening through capacity building and health workforce development and has mentored and trained a cadre of field officers in key skills in health program management and governance. Tatenda holds a BSc in Biology from Bennett College and a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.

    Caio Poli is an advocate for social equity and social entrepreneur from São Paulo, striving to reshape public service in Brazil. As a proud and optimistic Brazilian, Caio wholeheartedly believes it is possible to eradicate poverty in his country - in this generation! - through a more community-centered model of administration. As a second-year Master in Public Administration student at the Harvard Kennedy School, Caio has been focusing his studies on politics, public leadership and on how to design and implement systemic reforms in government. Prior to coming to Harvard, Caio had been working with teachers and public officials on (re)structuring educational programs to close the gap between policy goals and what actually happens inside classrooms. With the support of school communities and public leaders, students saw their learning outcomes grow 3-5x faster than average. Caio is also serving as the President of The Harvard Brazilian Association, a student organization that aims to bring more student diversity to the university and discuss pressing issues for the country. In his free time, Caio is currently failing to become a good cook, a photographer and a runner; thinks of going back home sooner every time Boston’s winter comes.

    Julia Rothacker is an MBA candidate at Harvard Business School, focused on innovation in financial services to improve investor outcomes. After receiving her BA in Economics from Amherst College, she joined McKinsey & Company where she advised a diverse range of financial services firms. She also worked at Capital Group, a $2.6T asset manager, in Strategy and Innovation. During her MBA, she interned with two leading FinTech firms – OpenInvest (J.P. Morgan) and Public.com. Both firms are focused on helping investors achieve their investment goals through technological innovation and providing services previously unavailable to most investors. Julia is an avid reader who also loves being outdoors.  Passionate about theater and theater education, Julia supports First Stage, a theater training program in her hometown of Milwaukee.

    Fatou Wurie has spent the last 15 years leading innovative approaches to development and humanitarian programs globally in some of the world’s leading multilateral development institutions. A social scientist by training and a development specialist by practice, she is a published author, recognized storyteller and founder of Wi-Ajo (Our Care), a company dedicated to elevating African women’s wellness. Fatou is currently pursuing a doctorate at the Harvard Chan school of Public Health and is on a mission to power gender equity in public health, climate action and governance.

    Back at Williams College, Jamie gave up the premed track for a major in Studio Art, unsure of where that would lead her. She worked for three years at McLean Hospital with adolescents struggling with mood and substance use disorders, where she saw how therapy could heal through open discussion and healthy relationships. Jamie then attended Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE), thinking she would eventually become a clinical psychologist. However, long hours of research helped her realize it was patient relationships that kept her going. She is currently pursuing her medical degree at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and hopes to become a child and adolescent psychiatrist promoting cultural humility and expanding accessibility to psychiatric care.

    Hamza is a third-year PhD student in Applied Mathematics, focusing on the intersection of artificial intelligence and neuroscience. He has a background in mathematics and physics from Rutgers University, and prior to starting his PhD he was a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences and a Machine Learning Research Scientist in the healthcare industry. He is currently working on combining modern deep learning methods with biologically inspired models of memory to increase robustness, efficiency, and interpretability of artificial intelligence. In addition to his research, he is interested in applying artificial intelligence to entrepreneurship (particularly in legal informatics, cybersecurity, and neurotechnology) and to philanthropy (optimizing supply chain infrastructure of food, water, shelter, energy, security, healthcare, online education, and career development resources to schools in developing countries). In his free time, Hamza enjoys martial arts, dancing, and computational design.

    Alexander “Zander” Farrow is a Master of Business Administration student at Harvard Business School. Zander received his B.A. from Harvard College in 2016, with a primary concentration in Government and a secondary concentration in Economics. His undergraduate research thesis, a game theoretic analysis of counterterrorism, inspired his subsequent career in public service. Professionally, Zander is an officer in the United States Air Force. Before business school, he served as an instructor pilot in the RQ-4B Global Hawk, a high-altitude remotely piloted aircraft. As an experienced aviator, he commanded global reconnaissance missions in support of senior leaders’ intelligence objectives. As a tactics officer, he also innovated new aerial techniques and organized numerous joint large force exercises. Passionate about strategy and innovation, he is currently interested in exploring the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the military. Zander avidly enjoys reading history, playing bullet chess, and strolling through the Charles River Esplanade on brisk autumn days.

    Arabi is a Bangladeshi immigrant who moved to Los Angeles with her family when she was 10. She is a community college transfer and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2019 with a B.A. in Sociology. Upon graduating, she started First Gen Empower, a non-profit organization that provides leadership training and college-access resources to first-generation, low-income, and immigrant high school students in CA. Beyond higher education access, Arabi is passionate about and committed to making the law serve those who have the least access to it. At Harvard, she is a Student Attorney at the Family Law and Domestic Violence Clinic, where she provides legal services to indigent clients. She is also a Teaching Fellow at the Cyberlaw Clinic, where she works on legal and policy issues at the intersection of civil rights and technology. After graduation, Arabi will be joining a law firm in Los Angeles.

    Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Morgan Martin is a doctoral student in the Biological Sciences in Public Health program at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. As she now works in the lab of Dr. Dyann Wirth, one of the world’s leading malariologists, her research focuses on investigating Plasmodium falciparum-mediated drug resistance in Senegal. Prior to starting graduate school, Morgan earned her B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Hampton University in 2020 as a MARC Scholar. Between her undergraduate work, internships, and current research, Morgan’s experience covers a range of areas from polymer chemistry to mitochondrial disease. She hopes to contribute to scientific advancement and research development for infectious diseases of global health concern for the duration of her professional career. Outside of the laboratory, Morgan enjoys dancing, traveling, and of course – eating. She also enjoys volunteering in a variety of ways from working at the local food bank to mentoring students of all ages.

    Archana Podury is an MD candidate at Harvard Medical School in the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology (HST) Program. Archana received her B.A. in Neuroscience from Cornell University, where she studied neural mechanisms underlying motor control and developed optical tools in the Goldberg Lab, the Princeton Neuroscience Institute, and at the biotechnology company Neuralink. While studying neural circuits, Archana worked at a syringe exchange in Ithaca, New York, where she witnessed firsthand the mechanics of court-based drug rehabilitation. Listening to patients’ stories deepened her conviction that science alone could not capture multiple dimensions of health and disease, which paved her path towards medicine. In medical school, Archana is interested in developing technologies that center patients’ narratives and improve quality of life. In the Boyden Lab at the MIT, she used optical imaging methods to characterize circuit dysfunction in human brain organoid models of neurodevelopmental disease. Concurrently, she worked in the Dhand Lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital to apply network science tools to understand how patients’ social environments influence their health outcomes during disability. She is currently working in the Otopathology lab at Massachusetts Eye and Ear to study histopathology and prosthetic options for patients with sensorineural hearing loss. She hopes to apply biotechnology and social modeling methods to improve quality of life after head and neck surgery.

    Hyae Won Redden is a first-year medical student at Harvard Medical School. Originally from South Korea, Hyae Won immigrated to the US early in her childhood, and lived in Little Rock, AR before moving to University Place, WA. Her many childhood summers spent with her grandparents in rural South Korea cultivated an interest in the intersection of culture, health systems, and other social determinants of health in healthcare access and quality, an interest that was augmented by her study abroad experience in Nepal and personal experiences helping family members navigate the challenges of healthcare for undocumented immigrants. She hopes to promote health equity throughout her medical career and has a special interest in implementing change through empowering community organizations and utilizing social entrepreneurship to mobilize and uplift the voices of underserved or marginalized communities. Prior to coming to HMS, Hyae Won earned a BS in Bioengineering and Biochemistry at the University of Washington and spent two gap years in South Korea - one year volunteering across multiple cultural organizations, and another year working in business development at a cancer immunotherapy biotech. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, swimming, hand lettering, painting and other arts & crafts activities, and learning new skills (her current project is self-teaching how to play the trombone).

    Leyla is in the design program with a background in Urban and Regional Planning from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Istanbul/Turkey. She left her homeland Mesopotamia and moved to the USA in 2012 to seek a better future and a higher education opportunities. Leyla has a lot of concerns about our planet’s future due to the extreme changes happening all across the globe. This concern and care got her into the MDes program with a particular focus on Climate Change and getting our cities ready for the upcoming risks of Global Warming. The process of peaceful embracement of Climate change is a lifelong goal for her. Aside from school, she is a CEO to a company named Bajer Watches, is a passionate entrepreneur and also a fashion designer, an activist, and a fantastic mom to two wonderful children named Aya and Aram. She started her company Bajer Watches, to create awareness of the Kurdish culture and provide empowerment to women and children in the Kurdish communities across the globe. Outside school, she is busy with her family, cooking, gardening, the business, reading, and walking. And she is very much into martial arts, particularly taekwondo. Leyla is Kurdish American, speaking Kurdish, Turkish, English and is just getting into learning Italian and Spanish!

    John is a second-year MBA student at Harvard Business School interested in technology development and operations. Originally from Charlotte, John earned a B.A. in Economics and International Studies from the University of North Carolina while completing the Air Force ROTC program. Upon graduation, he began his career as an Acquisitions Officer stationed at Hanscom AFB, Massachusetts. There, John led projects developing rescue radios for downed pilots and creating air-to-air refueling orchestration software. He also completed an A.L.M. in International Relations from the Harvard Extension School, where his thesis explored geospatial relationships among civilian attacks in Afghanistan during the U.S. occupation. His next assignment brought him to Hawaii, where he planned and executed sensitive reconnaissance missions across the Middle East and western Pacific as an Intelligence Officer. Through these experiences, John developed a passion for creating and implementing innovative solutions to cumbersome manual processes, leveraging new technologies to allow coworkers to focus on more value-added problems. Now an Air Force Reserve member, John and his partner, Haley, can be found most weekends hiking, camping, or skiing their way around New England.

    Cameron Comrie is a fourth year student at Harvard Medical School planning to pursue a career in general surgery. While in college, she worked with a reproductive rights NGO in Kenya and served on the board of an organization dedicated to expanding access to care for indigenous communities in Bolivia, which inspired her to pursue a career that merged medicine, public health, and health equity. At Harvard Medical School, she currently serves as the student director of Crimson Care Collaborative, the student-run clinic dedicated to providing free medical care to underserved and immigrant Boston communities. Her clinical interests include high value care, health outcomes research and surgical risk analysis and mitigation. She is currently pursuing research at Brigham and Women’s Hospital focused on improving end-of-life care and expanding access to palliative care for geriatric patients undergoing major surgery. Beyond this, she is passionate about reducing barriers to medical education for underrepresented students and those from low resource backgrounds.

    Lilli Gordon is a first year student at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Originally from Franklin, TN, Lilli received a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences, with minors in History and Chemistry from The University of Mississippi. After completing her training in oral surgery and patient care, she plans to engage global  leaders in healthcare policy to mitigate the overwhelming disparities in healthcare access. Her first experience with universal healthcare systems materialized during her three months in medical facilities in Da Lat, Vietnam and Chiang Mai, Thailand through a grant from The Freeman Foundation. After witnessing rampant dilapidation amongst oral healthcare, she redirected her captivation with preventative care toward broader global health inequities. She has worked with Jane Goodall community action programs in Tanzania to improve environmental conservation, and assisted as a medical steritech in Sydney, Australia through the COVID-19 pandemic. She hopes to use her experience with global inefficacies in public health as an operative for systemic change, working closely with colleagues from a range of perspectives to challenge her own ideas and cultivate a well-grounded relationship between citizens and science. After graduation, Lilli worked as an outdoor guide on a dude ranch in Montana and lived in Maui, Hawaii, where she  completed her advanced scuba certification. She recently finished backpacking 712 miles from the Swiss Alps to Rome along the Via Francigena.

    As a founder of architectural design studio ing-er, Daye Kim experiments with the possibility of architecture to stimulate autonomous behavior through research, exhibitions, and space design. Interested in the power of caring to tackle social problems, she has collaborated with various agents, including artists, AI engineers, and government officials. Daye is also a founding member and coordinator of SOFA (Society of Feminist Architects) based in Seoul, which strives to address underrepresented discourses on architecture through regular meetings and periodicals. As a part of the Master of Architecture program at Harvard Graduate School of Design, she researches design methodologies to embrace different agents into the entire process of architecture. You can find her chatting with her friends in various public spaces in Cambridge.

    Mahesh is a mid-career MPA student at Harvard Kennedy School. He came to HKS with a background in management consulting, technology, and global health, predominantly focusing on issues in low- and middle-income countries. Before HKS, he worked on vaccine access at COVAX, a worldwide initiative by WHO, Gavi, UNICEF, and CEPI to promote equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines. He previously worked for nearly seven years at FSG, a strategy consulting firm that works to create societal impact by advising foundations, non-profits, and corporations. While at FSG, Mahesh worked on projects across the health, economic development, and circular economy sectors. Before FSG, he worked in London and New Delhi with GSMA Mobile for Development, a social action unit within the global association of mobile operators. Mahesh has an academic background in mathematics and business management. He enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, and collecting old vinyl records.

    Sudheer Poluru is a JD/MBA student from Chicago, IL. He is currently a third-year law school student (3L) at Harvard Law School and is concurrently getting his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth. He received a B.A. in Economics and a minor in Psychology from Harvard College in 2015. Prior to grad school, he worked as a Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Consultant at Jones Diversity and on economic development projects in Brazil and Colombia. He has done summer internships in venture capital impact investing, white collar prosecution, corporate big law, and in-house legal department. In his free time, Sudheer loves to play pickup basketball, watch Bollywood movies, eat good food, and spend time with his lovely wife, Bridgette.

    Alison Schulte is a second-year student at the Harvard Chan School of Public Health pursuing an SM in Global Health and Population. Her research focuses on gender-based violence, sexual and reproductive health, and HIV/AIDS. Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan (Go Blue!), Alison received a Bachelor of Science in Global Health from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. She studied abroad in Paris, France and Bogotá, Colombia. While in Colombia, Alison studied the armed conflict with a special focus on sexual violence perpetrated on indigenous populations. She has worked on implementation of public health projects in Ethiopia, Guinea, Kenya, Uganda, and the United States. Recent projects include supporting digitization of the health sector of Ethiopia, researching the intersection of wealth inequalities and HIV/AIDS outcomes, and conducting a systematic review on the health outcomes related to early child marriage. Alison loves to read on the beach or in Boston Public Garden, cook, and spend time outside.

Originally from Ohio and having graduated from THE Ohio State University, Jenna is passionate about promoting good oral health and dental education. Before Harvard, Jenna found passion in teaching as an anatomy TA during the school year and an English teacher in a summer program abroad. She hopes to further pursue education in her career through dental academia, patient education, and health literacy. Outside of school, Jenna enjoys playing ultimate frisbee, camping, biking, and finding the best croissants in town.

    Andrew is an MD candidate at Harvard Medical School and an aspiring child psychiatrist. His interest in intergenerational trauma and healing. Born in Taipei and raised in Shanghai, Andrew came to the United States to study Biology and Health Policy at Harvard College. He then returned to China and completed a Master’s in Management Sciences at Tsinghua University as a Schwarzman Scholar. He has worked as the chief executive of a global nonprofit, a teacher in the slums of Peru, a case manager with an LGBTQ+ center in Taiwan, and a health advocate with Partners in Health in rural Mexico. Andrew aspires to deliver interventions that care for vulnerable children and families. Outside of work, Andrew enjoys poetry, dance, Muay Thai, and the outdoors.

    Maddie is a second year Master in Architecture I student at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. She comes from several loving acres of forest and garden in Lexington, Kentucky, and is passionate about collectivism, cycles of gratitude, and community justice. She has a Bachelors of Science in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis, where she co-directed an afterschool youth architecture program. Since her undergraduate education, she has worked for the City of Sacramento to research affordable housing development, designed housing and transit in Seattle, and participated in agroforestry advancement in New York. Maddie has returned to school to commit to not just good design, but design that does good. She hopes to oscillate with the energy of kindness, plant more green beans, and use compassionate intentionality to build a healthy world.

    Valerie Gutmann is a third year JD student at Harvard Law School. Originally from the Chicago suburbs, Valerie earned her BA in Sociology at the University of Chicago, where she studied affordable housing policy. During the year after graduation, she worked for a private contractor of the Chicago Housing Authority. As a 2018 Marshall Scholar, Valerie then moved to the United Kingdom. She earned an MPhil in Sociology at the University of Cambridge, where she studied the rollout of Universal Credit. Valerie then earned an MSc in Comparative Social Policy at the University of Oxford, where she studied international approaches to unemployment benefits. At Oxford, Valerie was selected as a 2020 Dahrendorf Scholar, which led her to research European graduate students’ perceptions of home, freedom, and European identity during Brexit. In law school, Valerie has especially enjoyed learning about Alternative Dispute Resolution; she is a trained mediator who mediates in the small claims courts in the greater Boston area, has served as a Teaching Fellow for the Harvard Law School Negotiation Workshop, and is a Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Negotiation Law Review. In her free time, Valerie enjoys hosting dinner parties, listening to podcasts, and exploring new neighborhoods and towns.

    Miguel is a dual-degree candidate (MArch II/MLA AP) at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. Originally from the Dominican Republic and primarily raised in New York City, he studied at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Columbia University. Prior to Harvard, Miguel worked professionally on the Children Hospital of Philadelphia’s new inpatient building (recently began construction), several housing towers in Mexico City, a resilient coastal city master plan, and two state-of-the-art university buildings, to list a few. Ultimately, Miguel is passionate about working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams in the pursuit of innovative projects which improve lives, champion equality in the built environment, and help combat the climate crises.     Ji Soo Janet Park is a third-year J.D. student at Harvard Law School. She holds a B.A. in East Asian Studies from Columbia University. After college, Janet spent her summer in New York City as an intern for the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations, attending various meetings and events at the UN Headquarters and drafting memos for a number of topics involving the UNGA Sixth Committee. She then accepted a position at the U.S. Department of Justice and moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked at the Antitrust Division and at the Office of Legal Policy for three years. The highlights of her time between college and law school include volunteering at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, and working on high-profile federal antitrust cases, and coordinating the judicial nomination process for the federal district, circuit, and supreme court nominees in D.C. During law school, she has interned with the UN Commission on International Trade Law, the International Paralympic Committee, and the DOJ Criminal Division. At Harvard, Janet is involved in the Harvard International Law Journal, Harvard Law School Program on International Law and Armed Conflict, and Asian Pacific American Law Students Association. A proud first-generation Korean immigrant, Janet is passionate about international law and diplomacy, diversity and inclusion, cross-cultural exchange, and grassroots activism.

    Rima Rebei is a doctoral student in Robotics at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Rima received her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in Controls, Instrumentation and Robotics. She also received a certification in Autonomous Machines through the New Engineering Education Transformation program at MIT. Rima’s research lies at the intersection of robotics and science and technology policy. Significant advances in robotics threaten to exacerbate social inequity and Rima aim’s to understand the intersectional impact of these human-interactive machines to address these inequalities through interdisciplinary solutions. Particularly, she is interested in exploring how robotics can work alongside community grassroots efforts to aid shaping government regulation and hopes to continue to work on technologies that increase collective community understanding and engagement in important civic conversations. In her free time, Rima loves producing music, playing the synthesizer in the Harvard Jazz band, dance, and photography.

    Shanze Tahir is a third-year medical student at HMS in the Pathways program. She spent her early years growing up in Pakistan before her family immigrated to the United States and settled down in the Midwest. Later, she attended Brown University where she concentrated in Ethnic Studies and humbly served as the Student Body President. She had the joyful opportunity to live abroad in Indonesia before starting medical school, where she taught English to high schoolers on a Fulbright grant. She is curious about multi-dimensional wellness, how medicine can be more inclusive, and the role of advocacy for marginalized populations within the field. Shanze also loves to travel, rock climb, and make lots of rose chai.
